September 16, 2024On Tuesday, the Punjab Government launched the ‘Lifesavers Initiative’ at the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU). This program aims to give college and university students crucial life-saving skills, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and bleeding management.
The launch of the initiative was timed to coincide with World First Aid Week, with the goal of encouraging Punjab’s educational institutions’ students to learn essential life-saving skills. Dr. Rizwan Naseer, the Secretary of the Emergency Services Department, highlighted the initiative’s objective of building a nation of lifesavers by ensuring every home has a trained first aid provider.
Uzma Qureshi, the Vice Chancellor of LCWU, emphasized the program’s significance, encouraging both educators and students to take the training seriously. She pointed out that Rescue 1122 has already trained thousands of students as lifesavers during a rigorous three-day course. Uzma Qureshi expressed her appreciation to the Community Safety Wing for their dedication to the training initiatives.
The Lifesavers Initiative will involve Rescue 1122, providing life-saving skills training to students in universities and colleges across Punjab. Punjab Minister for School Education, Rana Sikandar Hayat, and Punjab Minister for Health and Emergency Services, Khawaja Salman Rafique also shared their valuable opinions at the launch event. They revealed plans to extend the program to all educational institutions in the province, highlighting the government’s commitment to promoting a culture of safety and readiness.
Earlier in the day, students from LCWU who had finished their lifesaver training displayed their newly learned CPR and hemorrhage management abilities through a live demo. These students committed to spreading the life-saving campaign among their fellow students.
